Individual Equipment

  • Passport and photocopies of passport

All Year-Round. We may change the route during the rainy season, from March to December, as a precaution. Please be aware that this is the poorest department of Bolivia, so we might need to improvise at some times. It’s an adventurous tour. In the South Lipez: generally sunny days, windy in the afternoon. Accommodation is often very basic.

  • Strong backpack or travel bag + small day-pack
  • Good sleeping bag (for -10°C at least)
  • Warm clothes (windbreaker and fleece / cap / gloves / warm socks etc.)
  • Hiking boots
  • Sun-block
  • Hat
  • Camera
  • Sunglasses
  • Head torch with spare bulb and batteries
  • Personal first-aid kit
  • Pencil + note book (to give to childen but avoid sweets, school materials preferred)

From March to November. Nights can be very cold on the Cordillera.

  • Individual technical equipment: harness, ice axe, plastic boots, crampons, gaiters (can be rent in La Paz)
  • Technical mountain waterproof-breathable (type Gore-Tex) shell

  • Two pairs of gloves (one in polar, the other one waterproof), mittens recommended
  • Fleece hat – Warm socks (many pairs)
  • Hiking boots

  • Individual tent: $ 15 US / day

Important: No mandatory vaccines in Bolivia. Yellow Fever and malaria treatment are recommended for the Amazon area, no particular recommendation for the Yungas
